Review: Bullshit Jobs: A Theory by David Graeber

BS Jobs is an odd book – it’s an interesting idea badly executed! I struggled with the author’s rambling thoughts throughout. His early definition of what a BS job is has a curious requirement that the person doing the job must consider it BS! He stretches his ideas with multiple anecdotes repeating the same concept. And I finally gave up when he clearly misrepresented a quote from Obama – Obama was discussing mass redundancies due to healthcare consolidation, Graeber misused this “smoking gun” to insist politicians are aware of, and are preserving, BS jobs.

There is a book here that could’ve been interesting, so I’ve given this 2 stars for the concept. I suspect in the hands of a serious economic author, for example Stephen Dubner, this would’ve been stellar. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.
